According to recent studies, 5 percent of all motor vehicle fatalities are clearly caused by automobile maintenance neglect.
The cooling system should be completely flushed and refilled about every 24 months. The level, condition, and concentration of coolant should be checked. (A 50/50 mix of anti-freeze and water is usually recommended.)
Never remove the radiator cap until the engine has thoroughly cooled. The tightness and condition of drive belts, clamps and hoses should be checked by a pro.
Change your oil and oil filter as specified in your manual, or more often (every 3,000 miles) if you make frequent short jaunts, extended trips with lots of luggage or tow a trailer.
Replace other filters (air, fuel, PCV, etc.) as recommended, or more often in dusty conditions. Get engine drivability problems (hard stops, rough idling, stalling, diminished power, etc.) corrected at a good shop.
A dirty windshield causes eye fatigue and can pose a safety hazard. Replace worn blades and get plenty of windshield washer solvent.
Have your tires rotated about every 5,000 miles. Https www.apple.com support mac-apps mail email. Check tire pressures once a month; let the tires cool down first. Don't forget your spare and be sure your jack is in good condition.
Check your owner's manual to find out what fuel octane rating your car's engine needs then buy it.
Keep your tires inflated to the proper levels. Under-inflated tires make it harder for your car to move down the road, which means your engine uses more fuel to maintain speed.
Lighten the load. Heavier vehicles use more fuel, so clean out unnecessary weight in the passenger compartment or trunk before you hit the road.
Use the A/C sparingly. The air conditioner puts extra load on the engine forcing more fuel to be used.
Keep your windows closed. Wide-open windows, especially at highway speeds, increase aerodynamic drag and the result is up to a 10% decrease in fuel economy.
Avoid long idling. If you anticipate being stopped for more than one minute, shut off the car. Contrary to popular belief, restarting the car uses less fuel than letting it idle.
Stay within posted speed limits. The faster you drive, the more fuel you use. For example, driving at 65 miles per hour (mph) rather than 55 mph, increases fuel consumption by 20 percent.
Use cruise control. Using cruise control on highway trips can help you maintain a constant speed and, in most cases, reduce your fuel consumption.
Keep your engine tuned. A fouled spark plug or plugged/restricted fuel injector can reduce fuel efficiency as much as 30 percent.
Inspect the engine's belts regularly. Look for cracks or missing sections or segments. Worn belts will affect the engine performance.
Have the fuel filter changed every 10,000 miles to prevent rust, dirt and other impurities from entering the fuel system.
Change the transmission fluid and filter every 15,000 to 18,000 miles. This will protect the precision-crafted components of the transmission/transaxle.
Inspect the suspension system regularly. This will extend the life of the vehicle's tires.
- Thank you so much for quickly diagnosing the van's rear axle bearing issues AND the radiator repairs! You took our van, without an appointment, and repaired it within a few days! My husband appreciated all of the phone calls to keep us informed of what needed to be done. As out of towners, you could have taken advantage of us, but didn't! Not only were the repairs done at a fair price, you made sure the van was safe for mountain travel. We were able to safely continue with our travels and return to Texas! Only wish you guys were here in Houston! Thanks Chuck and all who worked on the van!! Sophia Castillo
- My experience at Machanic Inc today was awesome. Chuck, the owner, was so friendly, professional, and kind. The mechanic was wonderful and helpful. They didn't charge me for figuring out that I wasn't using a switch right. I will use them for everything from now on.
- These people were great. We had a minivan looked at for a pre purchase inspection and man were they thurough. They looked at almost everything. I was told of any problem or even any potential problem with my van. Because of their evaluation I got the price of my van knocked down $500 in addition to new brakes, some free body work and some free mechanical work. To get this work done on my own would have cost around an extra $1,500 bucks. So as I see it, getting the $80 plus tax inspection saved me $2,000 or so. Also, they told me over the phone it would be about a 3 hour inspection, but they got it done in an hour because they knew we were waiting to buy it.
- I only had a question. The mechanic who spoke with me was extremely helpful. No asking for payment just honest. For a person who isn't well inclined with engines he gave me a straight to the pin answer. If I ever have anything that I can't do I'll head directly here. Honesty obviously means more to them than taking your money. Otherwise they would have asked for money like every one else did. Thank you.
- Whomever stole my little beaten up 1993 Acura Integra 2 years ago stole a perfectly running, mechanically flawless vehicle, because it was maintained and repaired by the Mechanic. Later on, when taking a vehicle to them for a pre-purchase inspection, their thorough diagnositics sent the dealer into a defensive flurry that threw up so many red flags I knew not to buy from that dealer. Now, I have a CR-V that I dearly love and only trust it with these fine people. ;-)
- Took my car in when it wasn't going like it should. They are friendly and let me know what was happening, and more importantly how much it was going to cost, every step of the way.
- Dealing with Chuck was an enjoyable experience. We are in a pinch and he got us in that day. He was very transparent and we were in and out. I would highly recommend him! We are from Taos and if I had a choice I would drive down just to have him as my mechanic.
- Another year gone by and The Mechanic Inc continues to provide trustworthy and affordable automobile repair service. It simply does not get any better than this!
- Mechanic knew exactly what was wrong with my car as soon as he heard it running, and was extremely forthcoming and honest about what the problem was, how serious it was, and how it would be fixed if that was what I chose to do. Everyone I encountered was very friendly and polite. It also seems like they have some of the lowest rates in town for the initial inspection to determine the exact nature/extent of your problem. Highly recommended.
- Excellent service! Highly recommend! Was in a bind, having car issues during a road trip. . Chuck made time to help me out and was honest and sincere throughout the whole ordeal. His son was also helpful, and wife very friendly. Good family, good service, good price.
